This 275 page book is now available on Kindle. The book draws together the themes of transformative travel, the role of Architecture in relation to the human psyche and our capacity to heal, and the importance of spatial design in our daily lives, in travel destinations and with regards to future city design and public space. This is a large territory of thought but it provides a substantial background, a capacious vessel in which to hold our grief, shock, loss, illness and survival. When I encountered loss, I needed to see it through the lens of the world I knew. As a travel writer, Travel & Architecture were the tools I had in my hands to smooth the edges of despair, and eventually move onto safer ground. Travel and spatial design provide a world of metaphor wherein we can tell the psyche to "open a new door", "walk down a different path", "move a wall", or "place a window" where there was none. I hope by sharing this memoir, my world of experience and metaphor, built and imagined environment, readers can also find value in these tools for their own healing. I also hope we can learn to imagine our way into a better, greener, more compassionate future, building resilience through the use of spatial metaphor.
